The New Punderdome Game is a PUN of Fun! LOL
Punderdome is a super fun and challenging game that will leave all its players in stitches! Plus it comes in this little box that's easy to take anywhere with lots of fun colors, drawings and info on it. Definitely visually appealing.
What's really cool is that this game started as a monthly pun competition called Punderdome 3000, in Brooklyn by Fred and Jo Firestone, a father and daughter team, since 2011. Then in 2015 it was made into a game you can now play in your own home or wherever.
So if you don't know, a "Pun" is a play on words, a joke where you say one word but mean it as another word.
Just look at the pic below, even the reviews are pun-ny!
Example:
Topic (White card): Furniture
Situation (Green card): Exercising
Pun: "Come on in here, pull-up a chair"
Another Example:
Topic: Light fixtures
Situations: Dying
Pun: "Even though it's scary and people die in it, my favorite movie is silence of the Lamps"
These two examples are also listed, among others, on the "Just For Pun!" card included in the game box. (Above) And Yeah, those are pretty cheesy but that's what you do! Trust me. The results of these cards are nothing short of hilarious! Here is one of mine that I played! :)
How Do You Play?:
There is a two-sided, folded pamphlet included in the box that looks like this...! It has directions and other info on it.
But basically, the 1st person, usually the host, is the 1st pun prompter and draws 2 cards (a White Topic card and a Green Situation card) and asks one of the "Quick Pun" questions on the back of the cards. This is a warm up question.
Then, they read the words on the green and white sides of the cards and the other players have 90 seconds to create a pun. If a person makes up a pun the fastest, they win an extra 30 seconds for the next round.
After you think of your pun and write it down within the 90 seconds, hand it to the person who read the question. They choose the best Pun and the winner gets the cards used in that round.
Then the winner becomes the Pun Promoter and the next round begins.
It sounds easy right? Wrong. It is actually pretty challenging because 90 seconds is NOT A lot of time. LOL. But it is fun.
Also, there is 2 mystery envelopes, where the 1st prompter, usually the host, writes down 2 different prizes on pieces of paper and puts in the envelopes. These go in the center of the playing area the whole game. The winner of the game gets to choose one of those envelopes as their prize and they will not know what's inside. The prizes could be a piece of candy, a balloon, a roll of toilet paper, or whatever you want. They could put a real prize like the options above in one envelope and like something hilarious like "a used napkin" in the other one. Haha!
We put a Dum Dum sucker as one of the prizes and a roll of toilet paper as the other LOL. Our guest won a Dum Dum sucker and laughed when we told them they lost out on T.P.
What's In the Game?:
100 White Topic Cards
100 Green Situation Cards
1 Just For Pun! Card with Examples
2 Black Mystery Envelopes
2 Writing Pads
1 Pad of Paper for Mystery Envelopes
1 set of Instructions
Make sure everyone has a writing utensil, and bring a timer. And think of some good prizes! ;) ;)
So I played with my husband, 11 year old son, a few friends and their older children, about the same age as my son. It was slightly difficult for the younger 2 boys as well as for us adults. There's some thinking involved. This would be good to play as a drinking game too. The results would be even more hilarious.
All in all this is a blast. If you liked the game, Cards Against Humanity, you'll love this one too. One thing we did change was the 90 seconds ruling. We just gave enough time for everyone to write something down. Sometimes, no most of the time 90 seconds wasn't enough time, especially for us Newbie Punsters!
But I definitely recommend playing this game. I'm not punning around. It's a Pun of Fun!

I did get to try this free, from Blogging For Books, in exchange for my review, but these are my own opinions and experiences. And honestly, I never had such a punderful time playing a game! ;)
